About Ben Curtis

“I fell in love with golf from living on the course my grandfather built and the challenges that it brings. The same course each day provides a new experience and challenges that I love about this game.”

– Ben

Growing up in Ostrander, a small town in Central Ohio, I always dreamed of one day playing golf on the PGA Tour. I was enamored by the game since the first time I held a club at age 3. My family lived just behind the 18th green of Mill Creek Golf Club, a public course my grandfather built. To this day, my parents still work there – my dad is the course superintendent and my mom works in the pro shop.

I enjoyed playing other sports as well, mostly baseball and basketball, but nothing came close to my love for golf. After graduating from Buckeye Valley High School in Delaware County, I attended Kent State University on a golf scholarship. There, I was a 3-time All-American and a semifinalist at the 1999 U.S. Amateur at Pebble Beach. Continuing my amateur career, I became the back-to-back, 2-time Ohio Amateur Champion in 1999 and 2000, played in the Palmer Cup, and in the USA vs. Japan Collegiate Golf Championship.

My dream of playing on Tour became reality late in 2002 after I earned my Tour card through Q-School. Just a short time after, I played in and won the 2003 Open Championship at Royal St. Georges Golf Club in Sandwich, England – one of the oldest tournaments in the world. 2003 was a pretty great year for me. A solid start to my professional golf career earned me PGA Tour Rookie of the Year, and in August, I married my amazing wife, Candace, while playing at the Bridgestone Invitational in Akron, Ohio. I went on to win three more PGA Tour events in my career, and had the great honor of representing Team USA as we won the 2008 Ryder Cup.

Now I’m turning my attention from playing to teaching. My goal is to not only teach the golf swing, but to also share my knowledge of this game as a whole. From swing analysis to mentoring, physical training to nutrition, I want to talk to young players about every aspect of this great sport. It’s my way of giving back to the game I love.

See you on the course.
